Home and clothes
Rooms and furniture, housework, looking for a flat, repairs and what you wear.
What holds these lists together
One word does a lot of work here: ev is house, flat and home all at once. A flat in a block is a daire, the block itself an apartman, and an advert often says 2+1 — two bedrooms and a living room. From the first pieces of furniture the lists move on to rent, deposit and the caretaker, in many buildings the kapıcı, and to what breaks. For clothes Turkish has two verbs where English says “wear” or “put on”: clothes you put on (giymek), glasses, rings and hats you attach (takmak).
For example: ev (house, flat, home), kıyafet (clothes, item of clothing), çatı (roof), emlakçı (estate agent), tamir etmek (to repair, to fix)
