A common trap

Wrong A gente vamos ao cinema.

Right A gente vai ao cinema.

The meaning is plural and the form is singular, and English pushes both ways at once: your instinct with « the team » is to follow the sense, and there is no English word at all that means « we » and takes a « he » verb. So a gente vamos comes out by itself — the « we » travels from the meaning into the verb, where it does not belong. Say it a hundred times as a gente vai before trusting yourself with it.

Collective nouns: a gente
