Old age and care
Retirement, care levels and the documents German families are urged to sort out early.
This page explains vocabulary and is neither legal nor medical advice. Two German institutions account for much of it. Care is graded from 1 to 5 — der Pflegegrad — and the grade decides what the compulsory Pflegeversicherung pays. And two documents are routinely recommended long before they are needed: die Patientenverfügung, stating what treatment is wanted, and die Vorsorgevollmacht, naming who may decide when you cannot.
