A common trap

Wrong Si j’avais accepté ce poste, j’aurais vécu à Lyon aujourd’hui.

Right Si j’avais accepté ce poste, je vivrais à Lyon aujourd’hui.

Forcing both halves into the same tense says something else. Si j'avais accepté, j'aurais vécu à Lyon means I would have lived there then — and no longer do. The mixed form says the consequence reaches today. English makes exactly the same distinction between «I would have lived» and «I would be living», so the fix is to translate the English shape rather than default to the pattern.
