The participles cannot be worked out from the infinitive, and guessing produces forms that do not exist: prendu, faisé, voyé. English speakers guess less than most here, because «taked» and «writed» were beaten out of them early — the trap is rather that the French list looks short enough to leave for later. It is a single evening of work and it turns up in almost every sentence anybody tells you about their day.
