A common trap

Wrong Les gens habitants ici sont gentils.

Right Les gens habitant ici sont gentils.

The -ant form never agrees, however plural the word in front of it. An -s or an -e turns it into an adjective or a noun — les habitants means the inhabitants — and that is a different word. English has the same rule and never notices it, because living has no plural to add in the first place.
