What holds these lists together

A single chain, from the field, the cowshed and the boat through the bakery and the cellar to a restaurant kitchen. The lists share few words and still complete one another: whoever knows only the kitchen cannot read the label, and whoever knows only the label stands idle in the kitchen. In Spain the label often states an origin with legal weight. La denominación de origen is not a slogan but a protected name, watched over by its own consejo regulador. The wine words hold two small surprises for an English speaker: red wine is vino tinto, never rojo, and crianza on the bottle means time spent ageing, not how anybody was brought up.
