A common trap

Wrong Antes fui siempre en bici al trabajo.

Right Antes iba siempre en bici al trabajo.

The indefinido gets used for a habit, because it feels like «the» past: Antes fui siempre en bici al trabajo. That turns it into one closed event. The test is the English «used to»: if «I used to cycle» fits, the imperfecto is right — iba.
