O mercado de sábado

Shopping between eight and ten, with a mistake at the till.

Numbers, prices and quantities in a text that explains nothing and uses everything. Watch the contractions: do mercado, na caixa, das maçãs — in Portuguese the preposition merges with the article, always and without exception.

Ao sábado o mercado abre às oito. A Marta chega cedo porque a fruta boa acaba depressa.

A Marta paga seis euros.

Depois procura o pão. A padaria do mercado fica atrás do café.
