Procurar casa

Three flats in one day, and why it is the third.

A text about rooms, prices and floors — the words you need first when you move to another country. Watch ficar: here it does not mean “to stay” but “to be located”. A house fica somewhere, and that is one of the commonest meanings of the verb.

O Pedro procura casa há três semanas. Quer um apartamento pequeno perto do centro, com uma janela grande e sem escadas.

A primeira casa fica na rua atrás da igreja. É clara e limpa, mas a renda é alta demais. O senhor diz que o preço não muda.

A segunda fica no quarto andar e não tem elevador. O Pedro sobe devagar. O quarto é escuro e a cozinha é muito pequena. Ele diz obrigado e sai.

A terceira casa fica longe do centro, mas o comboio passa perto. Tem duas janelas para o jardim e uma cozinha nova. A renda é boa.

O Pedro pensa dois dias. Depois diz que sim. Na segunda-feira leva as malas e a família ajuda. À noite come na cozinha nova e está contente.
