Getting around and travelling
The street, the station, the trip and the city around it.
What holds these lists together
Korean says where something is by naming the landmark first and the side after it: 은행 옆에, “bank side-at”, next to the bank, and 역 앞에서, in front of the station. English puts the preposition first; Korean puts the place first and adds a word and a particle. Getting on and off takes different particles, too: you board the bus with 을/를, 버스를 타요, and get off at a stop with 에서, 여기에서 내려요. Changing lines is 갈아타다 in speech and 환승하다 on signs and in announcements, which are in the formal style throughout. The lists climb from the bus and the taxi to directions, the hotel, sightseeing, the rules of the road and the airport.
