Presenting and evading
What people do with a statement besides simply making it.
Several verbs on this list are an adjective welded onto a verb: schönreden, kleinreden, schönfärben, breittreten. The spelling is not a matter of taste. German writes such a pair as one word when the whole means something its parts do not, and as two words when each part keeps its own sense. Sie kann schön reden is praise: she speaks beautifully. Sie kann alles schönreden is an accusation: she can make anything sound fine. In a main clause the two cannot be told apart, because the adjective moves to the end either way — sie redet die Zahlen schön. The difference only becomes visible where the verb stays in one piece: the infinitive, the participle schöngeredet and schönzureden. So a report saying that a minister hat die Lage schöngeredet is criticising him, and the same letters with a space in the middle would be a compliment on his delivery.
