mangeons — Présent · nous; Impératif · nous
Nous avons mangé un gâteau. We ate a cake.
mangé — participe passé
On peut manger sur place ou emporter. You can eat in or take it away.
manger — infinitif
On mangeait souvent chez eux.We often used to eat at their place.
mangeait — Imparfait · il/elle/on · Imperfect (imparfait)
Quand il arrivera, nous mangerons. When he arrives, we will eat.
mangerons — Futur simple · nous · Simple future (futur simple)
Wrong Quand il arrive, nous mangerons.
Right Quand il arrivera, nous mangerons.
After quand and dès que French puts the future when the thing is in the future. English puts the present: «when he arrives, we will eat». Carry that across and you write quand il arrive, which is grammatical and means «whenever he arrives» — a habit rather than a plan.

The forms are calculated from the rules of the language — twice, in two independent ways — and checked against every hand-written form in this course. The example sentences are the course’s own.
