Occupational safety

Occupational safety has an order of its own, and the words hold it in place: first la evaluación de riesgos, then la medida colectiva, and only when that is not enough, el equipo de protección individual. Anybody who turns the order round and starts with the helmet has not understood the subject. One word in the middle of the list is worth stopping at. La formación is the ordinary Spanish word for training and schooling of every kind: la formación profesional, la formación en el puesto, un curso de formación. English has « formation » and will not lend it for any of that — a formation is a shape, a layer of rock, an arrangement of aircraft or of players, and never a course. The word English needs here is « training », and the two nouns share nothing except that somebody comes out of them changed.
