Certificate, wake, burial, inheritance — the words nobody learns in advance and everybody needs once.
El velatorio is the wake, and the two languages built the word on the same act: staying awake beside somebody. Spanish has velar, to sit up and watch over — velar a un enfermo is to sit with a sick person through the night — and English has « wake » from waking. But Spanish has a second velar from a different root, velum, meaning to veil or cover over: velar una foto is to fog a photograph. Two verbs, one spelling, and one of them keeps the light on while the other puts a cloth over it.
