Cooking and recipes
The verbs a German recipe is written in, and the equipment it assumes you have.
A German recipe is written in the infinitive, not the imperative: Zwiebeln fein würfeln, in Öl anbraten, mit Brühe ablöschen. That is the same impersonal form used on signs, and recognising it is most of what makes a recipe readable. Quantities are given by weight rather than by volume — flour in grams, not in cups — so a set of scales is assumed.
