L’entretien de dix heures
A job interview, from the door to the last question.
The vocabulary of applying for a job, and one thing that only shows in a whole text: Sarah says nothing bad about her old boss. Watch elle dit seulement que — the polite French way of limiting an answer instead of refusing it.
Sarah attend devant la porte du bureau. Elle a sa bonne veste et un sac sous le bras. Ils sont trois dans le bureau et l’un d’eux regarde tout de suite l’heure.
La première question est facile. Sarah raconte l’école, le premier travail dans un magasin, puis trois ans dans un petit bureau. Elle dit qu’elle aime travailler avec les gens et qu’elle apprend vite.
La deuxième question est plus difficile. On lui demande pourquoi elle veut changer. Sarah ne dit rien de mal sur son ancien chef. Elle dit seulement qu’elle veut apprendre autre chose et qu’ici il y a plus à faire.
Ensuite ils parlent du salaire et des heures. Sarah demande combien de jours de congé il y a et si on peut travailler à la maison le vendredi. Elle écrit tout sur sa feuille.
À la fin l’un des trois sourit et dit qu’ils appellent avant la fin de la semaine. Sarah sort, respire et regarde le ciel. Elle ne sait encore rien, mais l’entretien s’est bien passé.
