How often, and when

Words for habits, frequency and the past, present and future.

Chinese puts words for when and how often before the verb, not at the end of the sentence as English often does: 我(wǒ)偶尔(ǒu'ěr)喝(hē)咖啡(kāfēi), “I drink coffee occasionally”. Only a count of times or a length of time follows the verb: 去(qù)过(guo)两(liǎng)次(cì), been twice. Watch 从来(cónglái): it almost always comes with a negative — 从来(cónglái)不(bù)for a habit从来(cónglái)没(méi)for something that has never happened

As a verb, “to go over”, it is read guòqu.
