Economy, business and finance

The economy, companies, management, markets.

What holds these lists together

These are the lists of the business pages, and they are read long before they are spoken. Almost every term is a word of two characters, and the characters repeat from one word to the next: 市场(shìchǎng), the market, and 股市(gǔshì), the stock market, share one, and a reader who notices the parts understands new words before meeting them in a list. Rising and falling have a spoken pair, 涨(zhǎng) and 跌(diē), and a written pair, 上涨(shàngzhǎng) and 下跌(xiàdiē). Percentages are said whole first and part second: five per cent is 百分之(bǎifēnzhī)五(wǔ), "of a hundred parts, five", the same order Chinese uses for every fraction.

The four lists

Spread across the levels

The category runs across the levels — it is an area, not a difficulty. If you practise it, you can also choose a level at the top of the practice page and then get only the part that sits there.
