El grabado por plasma quita material con precisión vertical: plasma etching removes material with vertical precision. Etching — and grabar is one of those Spanish verbs that carries three English words which have no relation to each other at all. It is to etch, cutting into a surface with acid or with plasma, which is the sense this list needs. It is to engrave, cutting into metal or stone with a tool, and un grabado is the print that comes off the plate and hangs on a wall. And it is to record: grabar un disco, grabar una reunión, la grabación. The thread is real — all three cut a mark into something that keeps it — but English never followed it, because « record » comes from the heart (cor) and means to call back to mind, not to cut. So lo estamos grabando is a warning in a meeting and an instruction in a fab.
