English spends four words on la pinza. In theatre it is the clamp or the forceps: la pinza hemostática. At home it is the peg on the washing line, una pinza de la ropa; in the bathroom the plural is tweezers, unas pinzas de depilar; and on a jacket it is the dart a tailor sews in, una pinza en la cintura. All of them squeeze something between two arms, which is where they meet — and none of them is a « pincer », the word that looks closest.
