A common trap

Wrong Moro em Lisboa não.

Right Não moro em Lisboa.

Answering sim to everything is not wrong, exactly, but it marks every sentence as foreign. To falas inglês? the natural answer is falo, and to tens tempo? it is tenho — the verb comes back in the person of the answer. English gives you half the instinct with « I do » and « I have », so the move is familiar; what is new is that the whole verb makes the trip, not a stand-in.

Negation with não
