Health and the body

Organs, measurements, sleep and the small complaints people talk about every day.

This page explains vocabulary and is not medical advice. Japanese medical words are mostly two-kanji compounds whose parts can be read on their own: 体重(たいじゅう) is "body" plus "heavy", 体温(たいおん) "body" plus "warm". Many everyday complaints, on the other hand, are adjectives rather than nouns — だるい, かゆい — so where English says "I have an itch", Japanese simply says the place is itchy.
