Energy and resources

Power stations, fuels, mining and the effort to use less.

Most words for producing electricity are built the same way: a source followed by Japanese also likes to shorten long compounds, so a nuclear power station is 原発(げんぱつ) and saving energy is 省(しょう)エネ; these short forms are what you will actually hear and read. In daily speech electricity is 電気(でんき); 電力(でんりょく) is electricity as a supply that is generated, sold and used up.
