Networks, security, files and the words of everyday computing.
Japanese computing vocabulary has two layers. Most of the software world arrives in katakana — サーバー, クラウド, バグ — while the processes are named with kanji compounds that a menu or a news report will use: 圧縮, 上書き, 初期化. Many of those compounds turn into verbs with する. Watch for words with an older everyday meaning: 障害 is an obstacle before it is a system outage, and 液晶, liquid crystal, is what people call the screen of a phone.
