What holds these lists together
Working Japanese is a vocabulary of position as much as of tasks. Colleagues are 先輩 and 後輩, senior and junior by when they joined, and a manager is often addressed by job title, such as 部長, rather than by name. The working day is framed by fixed phrases: お疲れ様です greets a colleague at almost any hour, and お先に失礼します excuses you for leaving before the others. Written work has its own set: an e-mail to a client opens with お世話になっております whether or not anybody has done you a favour. The lists follow a working life from the first job to the change of company.
