School: system and classroom

The German school system splits children into different school types after four years of primary school, and which types exist depends on the federal state — so no single description fits the whole country. Two things do hold everywhere. Marks run from 1, the best, to 6, the worst, which is the reverse of most systems. And moving up a year is not automatic: die Versetzung is decided on the school report, and a pupil can repeat a year.
