Post and parcels

Sending something, collecting something, and the slip through the door saying you were out.

Post in German-speaking countries runs on a few fixed rituals, and the words for them are worth having before the first parcel arrives. A delivery you miss leaves a Benachrichtigung — a slip telling you where the parcel went and until when it will wait. A Packstation is an automated locker you open with a code, and it has become the normal way to collect a parcel in a city. Most of this vocabulary is the same at a counter and on a website.
