Camping and motorhomes

Booking a pitch, putting up the tent, finding power and water.

The list for a weekend under canvas. At the very end sits humide et froid, and the English word that looks like the first half is the one word that will not do. « Humid » in English is about *warm* air — a humid afternoon, the humid tropics — so « humid and cold » reads as a contradiction. The cold, unwanted wet in a tent is « damp »: a damp sleeping bag, damp clothes, damp ground. And English has a third word for wet that is *wanted*: « moist », which belongs to a cake and never to a campsite. French humide covers all three without blinking — un gâteau humide, un climat humide, une tente humide — so one French word has to be split into three going the other way, and the one to reach for here is the one that looks least like it.
