不分主题的词 I
最简单的一批词，不属于任何一个主题。
这些词大多能直接对上一个中文词，看起来很容易，但有三个要特别留意。whether 不是表示条件的“如果”，而是“是否、是不是”：I do not know whether he is at home. 是“我不知道他在不在家”；表示条件要用 if。certain 的意思随位置而变：I am certain 是“我确定”，a certain day 却是“某一天”。else 要放在它修饰的词后面：anything else 是“别的什么”，someone else 是“别人”，顺序和中文正好相反。

bread 不可数，不能说 a bread；要说 a piece of bread，作用类似中文的量词。
problem问题；麻烦名词A1
We have a small problem with the door.我们的门有点小问题。
step一步；步子名词A1
She took one step back and looked again.她往后退了一步，又看了一遍。
wish愿望名词A1
That was his only wish.那是他唯一的愿望。
path小路；小径名词A1
A narrow path goes down to the water.一条窄窄的小路通到水边。

everyone每个人；大家代词A1

everyone 作主语时动词用单数：Everyone is here.，不是 are。
anyone任何人；有人（用于疑问句）代词A1
Did anyone call this morning?今天上午有人打电话来吗？
介词 (2)
around围绕；在……周围介词A1
They sat around the small table.他们围坐在那张小桌子旁。
above在……上方介词A1
The lamp hangs above the table.灯悬在桌子上方。
连词 (1)
whether是否；是不是连词A1
I do not know whether he is at home.我不知道他在不在家。
表示“是不是、会不会”的疑问用 whether（口语里也常用 if）；但表示条件“如果”时只能用 if。
