More about this list
You can build many abstract nouns yourself: -lik turns an adjective into a state, like English -ness or -dom (özgür → özgürlük “free → freedom”), and -me and -iş turn a verb into a process, like -ment or -ing (gelişmek → gelişme “develop → development”). Some soften or lose a vowel as soon as an ending comes: amaç → amacı, umut → umudu, sabır → sabrı, nesil → nesli. And Turkish often says with a noun and a verb what English says with a verb: önem vermek“to value”karar vermek“to decide”
