El collar isabelino is the wide plastic funnel a dog wears so it cannot lick a wound, and both languages named it after the same queen: the stiff pleated ruff of the sixteenth century. English writes « Elizabethan collar » on the invoice and says « the cone » or « the cone of shame » in the waiting room, so the vet and the owner use two different words for the same object. Spanish keeps el collar isabelino in both places, and the animal in it looks equally ridiculous under either name.
