Twice on this page el sentido means what a text means: el sentido literal, el sentido alegórico. English says « sense » there and mostly stops. The Spanish word carries three more loads. It is the sense one hears or smells with, los cinco sentidos. It is direction: una calle de sentido único, en el sentido de las agujas del reloj. And it is consciousness itself — perdió el sentido means somebody fainted, not that they stopped making sense.
