El punto gatillo is the trigger point, and the Spanish word for a trigger hides an animal. El gatillo is a little gato, a little cat — and el gato itself is not only the animal but the jack that lifts a car off the ground. Spanish has put the cat inside two machines: the one that fires and the one that lifts. English got « trigger » from a Dutch word for pulling, and named the jack after a man called Jack. Same two objects, and neither language chose the obvious word for either.
