Space and position

Describing a room gets surprisingly far on delante and detrás, and then stops. This list collects the rest. The word to carry away is el rincón, in el rincón muerto. Spanish has two words where English has one. El rincón is the corner seen from inside, where two walls meet and the room narrows — the reading corner, the dead space behind a wardrobe. La esquina is the corner seen from outside, the one a building turns and a street has: el bar de la esquina. English says « corner » for both and leaves the sentence to sort it out, which is why « meet me at the corner » is clear enough outdoors and hopeless in a flat.
