Nursing asks a different question from medicine: not <em>which illness</em> but <em>what it means for this person</em>. The word to carry away is la valoración, which opens the list in la valoración enfermera. Spanish uses it for every kind of judging how much something is worth: the nurse's assessment at the bedside, the valuation an estate agent puts on a flat, the appraisal a manager writes once a year, and plain esteem in la valoración positiva de su trabajo. English keeps a separate word for each, and picking the wrong one moves the sentence into another trade: an « assessment » of a flat is not what the bank is waiting for, and a « valuation » of a patient is not what the ward is waiting for.
