Training and competition in Spanish

Signing up, training, winning, getting hurt.

Las agujetas is the ache you feel the day after, and the word is the plural of aguja, a needle: what it feels like is small needles in the muscle. It is almost always plural — tengo agujetas — and it takes tener, not ser or estar. English has no noun for this at all and has to build a phrase out of an adjective. Spanish also has the verb: me han salido agujetas, they have come out, as if they had arrived from somewhere.
