Remover is the trap of this list. It does not mean to remove; it means to stir. Remueve de vez en cuando tells you to keep the pan moving, not to take anything out — and a recipe read the English way ends with an empty pan. To remove is quitar, or retirar when a pan comes off the heat: retira del fuego. The confusion runs one way only, because outside the kitchen remover keeps the sense of stirring things up: remover el pasado is to rake over the past.
