La carta de la vecina

La carta llevaba tres días en el buzón de Sofía. No era para ella: el nombre era parecido, el número del piso no. Sofía la sacó, la miró por los dos lados y la volvió a dejar donde estaba.

El cuarto día se la llevó a casa. La dejó en la mesa de la entrada, donde se dejan las cosas que no se saben dónde poner, y allí estuvo una semana más.

Cuando por fin llamó a la puerta del segundo, abrió una mujer mayor que no la conocía. Sofía le explicó lo del buzón. La mujer dijo que esperaba esa carta desde hacía un mes y que ya había llamado dos veces al banco.

No se enfadó. Le dio las gracias, le preguntó si vivía arriba y le dijo que pasara cuando quisiera. Sofía contestó que sí y las dos sabían que probablemente no pasaría.

Desde entonces se saludan en la escalera. No es amistad, pero Sofía baja al buzón con más cuidado y mira el número antes de coger nada.
