Home and household
Rooms and furniture, the house and its parts, finding and renting a flat, cleaning and repairs.
What holds these lists together
Home starts with the rooms and ends with the toolbox. In between are the words you need in Poland as soon as you look for a flat yourself: the concrete blok and the old kamienica, the one-room kawalerka, the kaucja and the czynsz. Floors are counted the British way, with the ground floor called parter. And because almost everything you do at home happens somewhere, it goes into the locative: w kuchni, w łazience, na balkonie.
For example: dom (house; home), sąsiad (neighbour (man)), ogłoszenie (advert, ad; notice), remontować (to renovate, to do up), przeprowadzić się (to move (house))
