Jan has a sore throat and a cold and asks for advice at the chemist’s.

At the chemist’s people use the polite form: Ma pan gorączkę? Watch boli mnie gardło — the pain is the subject and the person is in the accusative, “the throat hurts me”. And the genitive after a negative: gorączki nie mam.

Beata

Dzień dobry, w czym mogę pomóc?

Jan

Dzień dobry. Od wczoraj boli mnie gardło i mam katar.

Beata

Ma pan gorączkę?

Jan

Nie, gorączki nie mam. Ale jestem bardzo zmęczony.

Beata

Polecam panu te tabletki. Bierze pan jedną tabletkę co trzy godziny.

Jan

Dobrze. Ile kosztują?

Beata

Dwanaście złotych. I proszę dużo pić, najlepiej ciepłą herbatę.

Jan

Dziękuję. Płacę kartą.

Beata

Proszę bardzo. Wszystkiego dobrego!
