Work and the office

Getting a job, office life and the titles people are called by.

In a Korean office people are rarely called by their names: they are called by their title plus 님 (과장님, 부장님), or by their surname and title (김 대리). Using a colleague's first name alone can sound rude. Most of the words for a working life are Sino-Korean pairs: 입사 and 퇴사, joining and leaving a company; 결근 and 조퇴, staying away and leaving early.
