Home and daily life
The rooms, the chores, the daily round and the flat itself.
What holds these lists together
A Korean home starts at the door: shoes come off at the entrance, and the floor is warm, because the heating runs under it rather than along the walls — which is why people sit, eat and once slept on the floor. The words for renting are their own system. With 월세 you pay rent every month as elsewhere; with 전세 you hand the landlord a large deposit, live without monthly rent, and get the deposit back when you move out. A one-room flat is a 원룸, a word built from English that English does not use. The daily routine is mostly verbs, and many of them are a noun with 하다: 청소하다, to clean, 빨래하다, to do the washing, 설거지하다, to wash up. Learn the noun and you have the verb for nothing.
