What holds these lists together
취미가 뭐예요?, what is your hobby, is one of the first questions a new acquaintance asks, and the answer is often a noun with 하다: 운동하다, to exercise, 등산하다, to go hiking, a pastime that fills the mountain paths at weekends. Watching a film, a match or a series is 보다, to see, and so is taking an exam, 시험을 보다, which surprises most learners. To win is 이기다 and to lose 지다, and the fans 응원하다, cheer, with chants and songs. Popular culture brought its own vocabulary, much of it borrowed and changed on the way: 팬, 드라마, 노래방, a room for singing with friends. The lists go from hobbies to sport and the media of the later levels.
