What people do for a living, from the farmer and the tailor to the engineer, and what they earn.
Asking about work is part of almost every first conversation: आप क्या काम करते हैं? Most job titles are masculine nouns that are also used for women — वह इंजीनियर है — and some have a feminine form of their own. A job you are employed in is नौकरी; work in general, and a task, is काम.
