A sightseeing trip in Hindi is घूमना-फिरना, a walk is सैर, and a stop on the way is a पड़ाव. The signs at a monument are in the formal register — प्रवेश, संग्रहालय, दर्शनीय स्थल — while the guide and the shopkeeper speak the everyday one. Where you stay may be a hotel, or a धर्मशाला, a simple rest house for pilgrims.
