Indian food

Breads, snacks, spices, sweets and the verbs of an Indian kitchen.

An Indian kitchen has its own verbs: dough is kneaded (गूँधना), bread is rolled (बेलना) and cooked on a तवा, and a dal gets its तड़का, spices fried in hot fat and poured over at the end. Pickles are not made but “put”: अचार डालना. Most spice names are feminine (हल्दी, इलायची, हींग), with जीरा and धनिया the common exceptions.
