Emergencies and safety

The words for calling for help, describing what happened and reading a warning sign.

Two numbers cover an emergency across the German-speaking countries and the whole of Europe: 112 reaches the fire brigade and ambulance everywhere, and 110 reaches the police in Germany. A call is answered with four questions — where, what has happened, how many people are hurt, and who is calling — and the person on the line ends the call, not you. This vocabulary is worth learning before it is needed rather than looked up during it.
