The first measure words
Eight measure words and the phrases they make with the nouns of the first week.
A number cannot stand directly before a noun in Chinese; a measure word goes between them, and the same is true after 这, 那 and 几. This list gives each of the first measure words with the phrases a newcomer needs straight away, because the phrase is what is actually learned: 一杯咖啡, 一张票, 几位. The tone of 一 changes with the measure word after it, and the pinyin shows it.
