Marina llegó veinte minutos antes y esperó en la calle para no parecer nerviosa. A las nueve menos cinco subió. La mujer de la entrada le dijo que se sentara, que ya la avisarían.

La sala tenía una mesa larga y tres sillas de un lado. Marina se sentó en la que quedaba enfrente y colocó la carpeta encima de las rodillas, porque en la mesa le pareció demasiado.

Las primeras preguntas eran las que había preparado: por qué esta empresa, qué había hecho antes, dónde se veía en cinco años. Respondió bien, aunque se oyó a sí misma repitiendo la palabra «experiencia» tres veces.

Entonces el hombre de la izquierda cerró la carpeta y preguntó otra cosa: qué haría si un compañero se llevara el mérito de su trabajo. Marina se quedó callada unos segundos, y esos segundos le parecieron muy largos.

Contestó que primero hablaría con él y después, si hiciera falta, con el jefe. No supo si era la respuesta que esperaban. Le dieron el puesto tres semanas más tarde, y nunca preguntó por qué.
